Pi Network has confirmed its role as an official sponsor of Consensus 2026, where co-founders Nicolas Kokkalis and Chengdiao Fan will speak on May 7 and May 6, respectively. This announcement comes as the network approaches a critical April 27 deadline requiring all node operators to upgrade to Protocol 22.
Summary
Pi Network will sponsor Consensus 2026 in Miami, with both founders scheduled to appear at the Convergence Stage.
Nicolas Kokkalis will take part in a May 7 discussion focused on verifying human identity online without compromising privacy, while Chengdiao Fan will present on May 6 about integrating Web3, AI, and blockchain into practical use cases.
The event timing aligns with Pi’s mandatory Protocol 22 upgrade deadline on April 27, after which any nodes that fail to comply will be disconnected.
Pi Network has reiterated that Nicolas Kokkalis will join a panel on May 7 (10:15–10:45 AM EDT) titled “How to Prove You’re Human in an AI World (Without Doxing Yourself),” while Chengdiao Fan will speak on May 6 (11:15–11:35 AM EDT) about aligning Web3, AI, and blockchain for real-world utility. The conference runs from May 5 to May 7 and is expected to attract more than 20,000 participants.
Identity Focus as Core Strategy
Kokkalis’ panel addresses a growing challenge in the AI era: distinguishing real users from increasingly sophisticated AI-generated identities. Pi Network highlights its base of over 18 million KYC-verified users—built through a mobile-first verification system handling hundreds of millions of validation tasks—as a structural solution to this issue. The project positions itself alongside competitors like Worldcoin and Humanity Protocol in the proof-of-personhood space, which has seen rising investor interest.
Fan’s session will emphasize the role of tokens as functional tools within applications, rather than purely speculative assets, presenting PI as infrastructure designed for long-term ecosystem utility.
Protocol 22 Deadline Nears
The sponsorship comes at a crucial operational phase for Pi Network. All Mainnet nodes must upgrade to Protocol 22 by April 27, or they will be automatically removed from the network. The upgrade, which takes less than 15 minutes, requires version 0.5.4 and introduces a dual-interface setup combining node operations with a desktop Pi app.
Protocol 22 also lays the groundwork for Protocol 23, expected on May 18, which aims to enable full smart contract functionality across the network.
Market Implications
The convergence of the Protocol 22 upgrade, the PiRC1 framework rollout, and the Consensus 2026 presence marks one of Pi Network’s most active periods. The event offers the founders a platform to engage with institutional players, developers, and policymakers, potentially influencing broader adoption.
