AI Agent Whale Takes 92% Hit After Unwinding Positions
One of crypto’s biggest bets on the AI Agent narrative has ended in a costly exit. An on-chain whale has offloaded a basket of AI-related tokens it originally bought for $31.12 million, walking away with just $2.57 million, according to data shared by Ember.
The wallet built its positions early in the year, right at the height of AI Agent hype. At the time, money was pouring into anything tied to autonomous trading bots and AI-driven execution strategies.
Fast forward to today, and the mood has clearly shifted. With liquidity thinning and enthusiasm fading, the whale closed the trades at a loss of roughly $28.54 million—about a 92% drawdown.
Losses Pile Up Across Major AI Agent Tokens
The damage was heavy across nearly every position. The whale lost around $15.89 million on AIXBT, a 91% drop from entry, and another $9.87 million on FAI, down roughly 92%.
Smaller positions fared even worse. NFTXBT and POLY, both part of the Virtuals ecosystem, were almost completely wiped out, posting losses of about 99%, or roughly $690,000 and $780,000 respectively.
Elsewhere, BOTTO—an AI-powered art and curation project—fell by about 84%, costing the wallet close to $930,000. MAICRO, another Virtuals-linked agent token, dropped around 90%, translating to a loss of roughly $380,000.
Thin Liquidity Made the Exit Even More Painful
Because these tokens now trade in relatively shallow markets, the sell-off had an immediate impact on prices. As the whale exited, AIXBT slid about 10%, FAI fell 8%, and NFTXBT dropped 29%.
The pressure spread quickly. BOTTO sank 32%, MAICRO plunged 48%, and POLY fell 26% as the wallet pushed through its positions.
Capitulation, Not a Rebalance
Data from Arkham shows a rapid sequence of transfers between the whale’s address and liquidity pools. The pattern suggests a clean capitulation rather than a gradual repositioning. Instead of waiting for a renewed wave of AI Agent speculation, the whale chose to lock in losses and move on.
For traders who chased the same narrative, the episode is a stark reminder of how fast sentiment can turn in theme-driven markets. Many AI Agent tokens launched late in the broader AI boom and never developed the real usage or liquidity needed to support large exits.
A Lesson in Narrative Risk
The liquidation highlights a hard truth of crypto markets: size can be an advantage on the way up, but a liability on the way down. When liquidity dries up, every sell order pushes prices lower, compounding losses.
For those still watching the AI Agent space, the exit cuts both ways. It serves as a warning that even deep-pocketed players can get caught on the wrong side of fading narratives. At the same time, some may see the sell-off as a necessary flush, clearing out stale supply from thin and fragile markets.
