Ripple has expanded its presence in South Korea with Meritz Securities, making it the company’s fourth institutional partnership in the country this year and its first with a Korean securities firm. The partnership will focus on exploring Ripple Custody and tokenization infrastructure for Korea’s capital markets. Meritz is also examining opportunities around spot digital-asset ETFs, fractional investment, security tokens, trading platforms and KRW-denominated stablecoins.
The development is significant because Ripple is now building relationships across several parts of Korea’s financial system. Its earlier partnerships include Kyobo Life Insurance, which is using Ripple Custody for tokenized government-bond settlement; Kbank, which is deploying digital-asset wallet infrastructure; and Jeonbuk Bank, which adopted Ripple Payments for cross-border remittances. This gives Ripple exposure across insurance, banking and capital markets, rather than relying solely on payments.
However, the key question for XRP investors is whether these partnerships actually translate into XRP usage. The Meritz announcement does not confirm that XRP will be used for settlement, nor does it announce an XRP-based product or a tokenized security issued on the XRP Ledger. Ripple’s infrastructure can support digital assets without XRP necessarily being the asset used in every transaction. Therefore, calling the partnership direct evidence of new XRP demand would be premature.
For XRP, the bigger story may therefore be institutional infrastructure first, token utility later. If future Korean products begin using the XRP Ledger or XRP as a bridge/settlement asset at meaningful volumes, the impact could be much more significant. For now, the Meritz deal strengthens Ripple’s institutional footprint in one of Asia’s important digital-asset markets, but investors should watch for actual XRP settlement, XRP Ledger deployments, transaction volumes and live products rather than relying only on partnership headlines.
