Bitcoin traded comfortably above $92,000, up 1.6% over the past 24 hours, as a selective rally lifted parts of the crypto market rather than everything at once.
Ethereum followed with a 2.1% gain, trading above $3,150, while most major tokens moved sideways. The biggest move came from Monero (XMR), which jumped nearly 18%, leading a strong rally in privacy-focused tokens.
AI-linked tokens also extended their rebound, with the sector up more than 2%. Gains were driven by names like FET, TAO, and Venice Token, several of which posted double-digit increases. DePIN tokens climbed alongside AI, while DeFi and Layer 1 assets saw more modest gains.
Meanwhile, CeFi tokens, meme coins, and Layer 2s lagged behind, highlighting continued sector rotation rather than a broad market breakout.
So, what else is moving the market today? Here are the latest developments 👇
Tether Freezes $182M in USDT Across Tron Wallets
Tether froze more than $182 million in USDT over the past 24 hours, targeting five wallets on the Tron network that each held between $12 million and $50 million. The company did not disclose the specific reasons behind the freezes.
The move comes as Chainalysis data shows stablecoins made up 84% of illicit crypto transaction volume by the end of 2025. Separately, an AMLBot report said Tether froze roughly $3.3 billion in assets between 2023 and 2025 and blacklisted over 7,200 wallet addresses, highlighting its growing role in enforcement actions across the industry.
Matrixport Says Bitcoin Downside Risks Are Fading
Matrixport said downside risks in crypto are increasingly being contained as market sentiment begins to stabilize.
The firm pointed to its Greed & Fear Index, whose moving average is forming a clear bottoming pattern—a setup that has historically aligned with Bitcoin price bottoms. While Matrixport doesn’t expect an immediate run to new all-time highs, it said the odds now favor a rebound over a prolonged sell-off.
Unlike late October last year, when it warned of a deeper correction, the firm believes 2026 will reward disciplined, tactical trading rather than aggressive bullish bets.
Crypto YouTube Viewership Falls to Lowest Level Since 2021
Engagement with crypto content on YouTube has slumped to its lowest level since January 2021, according to data shared by analyst Benjamin Cowen, which tracks declining 30-day average views across major channels.
YouTuber Tom Crown said the slowdown isn’t limited to YouTube, noting that social interest across platforms has been falling since October 2025 and is now back in bear-market territory.
Commentators point to retail fatigue after years of scams and pump-and-dump schemes, while institutional players increasingly dominate the current market cycle. Some investors have also shifted attention toward assets like gold and other precious metals.
Powell Confirms DOJ Subpoenas, Trump Denies Rate Pressure
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said the Justice Department has served the Fed with grand jury subpoenas and raised the possibility of criminal charges—an unusual development that has put the Fed’s independence back under the spotlight.
In a video posted Sunday, Powell said prosecutors are investigating his June Senate testimony related to the Fed’s $2.5 billion headquarters renovation.
President Donald Trump denied any connection between the investigation and interest rates, saying he had no knowledge of the probe and rejecting claims that it was meant to pressure the Fed.
India Tightens Crypto KYC Rules With Live Selfies and Geo-Tracking
India’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has rolled out stricter AML and KYC rules for crypto exchanges, requiring live selfie verification and location tracking during user onboarding.
Under guidelines issued on January 8, exchanges are now classified as Virtual Digital Asset (VDA) service providers and must go beyond basic document uploads. Users will need to complete liveness checks—such as blinking or head movement—to prevent deepfakes, while exchanges must record IP addresses, timestamps, and geographic data at account creation.
